| The thumbnail of this image is great. At full size, the focus is really soft and the lighting is kind of dull. Her eyes are very dark also. |

| The thing that bothers me about this image is the softness of her right side. Her left eye is in sharp focus, but the right one is soft as is the skin and hair on that side. A deeper DOF would really help. Also, I would say you overexposed for the lighting by a good bit which cause loss of skin texture and texture in her clothing. And lastly, I know its hard to remember when you are shooting yourself, but when you are in front of the camera, you are the model. Not a prop. You should try to connect with the viewer with your eyes and your expression - smile - laugh - frown - whatever, but just a placid stare into the camera isn't the most flattering look. |

| I actually think this is very nicely done, even with the 17-40 lens I don't think your nose looks out of proportion (unless it's really much smaller than that! ). Anyway, I really like the soft lighting and also the catch lights in your eyes. The b&w toning is well done. The only two things I'd recommend is that the eyes be a little sharper to draw more attention to them, and the light on the chest be reduced to draw less attention there. Otherwise, beautifully done! |

you mentionned in your post that this was taken with a 17-40. Indeed not my preferred choice as this emphasizes the nose. The picture could gain if it was sharper. You apparently did some "burning" of the background, but it shows(you see the pencil strokes), which obviously is also problematic.
The soft, side lighting is good, creating nice, soft tones. The general composition, while not very original, is good too. |
