I appreciate the comment and, particularly, this Santayana quote. While I'm not very familar with his writings, this piece struck home. It seems to capture quite succinctly what I was trying to say with my photo (title and all...). Thanks again for the astute words.

The "k" spelling is used very frequently on political posters promulgated by those who believe the US government is becoming an ever-more fascistic oligarchy, and not the allied representatives of the general populace acting in their interests which the Founding Fathers intended.

The analogies are so obvious that I won't point them out except by request. Here's the famous quote, given in its fuller context:

Progress, far from consisting in change, depends on retentiveness. Yes, Rita, the subject is controversial, as I believe all propaganda is. The one-sided promulgation of an idea or policy will evoke controversy. It polarizes an audience.

Did you ever feel strongly about a religious or political idea? Given the opportunity to present your side in such an arena, you might display your emotion, as this man does (more of a passionate siding with the message, than one of anger - IMO).

The "k" in Amerika is the German spelling of America. The point is that such one-sided passion for a nation's policies was displayed 60+ years ago in Nazi Germany. It was just an allusion, not meant to equate America with Nazi germany - just to say that we need to be careful...

As you know it is a controversial subject. The man in the picture looks very angry. Why spelled with a K? I think I missed something her.

Man, now that's propaganda. The 'spirit' sign kinda looks like its from a fortune cookie, but a well done shot overall. The progaganda guy is perfect and very well framed in the image.

a little bit of out focus in the men. Good idea, very controversial.

Some spirit! Good shot, nicely arranged and composed, well lit, makes the point.

I would have made all subjects in focus. The man being out of focus distracts the whole shot. The idea is right on...

Right in the spirit of propaganda posters of my youth, and I love the title. There\'s a book by a woman named Honor Tracy which has as its epigraph something about the effort to tread the thin line \"between right or wrong\". Well composed, balanced, good light, focus, I would almost have liked to see the title text in the image - perhaps instead of the spirit of America message especiaslly because the k spelling in the title works well

This is great. As an American, I found it somewhat disheartening that everyone seemed to jump on the USA bandwagon AFTER 9/11. This image is an excellent representation of the challenge.

Is that Ascroft? It looks like him...Maybe younger.

Probably would have been better without the words. Oddly enough, the pic seems focused upon the flag. This photographer should take a look at the mannequin shots in this category and take some hints from their framing of the subject, which is far better than the cropped face and arm we see here.

Soft, blurry and under exposed. America is all about the red, white, and blue, why is this shot in black and white? 4 -danny
