Wow Rina. You certainly received some interesting comments here. Apparently your shot struck some sort of emotional chord in some viewers - that's a good thing (as annoying as some of their comments are!). The comments got me thinking...what an incredibly broad and variable as well as subjective definition of HATE we seem to have in this world. Sometimes HATE can be defined as mildly disagreeing with anothers lifestyle choices. Sometimes HATE is used to describe how I feel about canned lima beans. Sometimes HATE is defined so strongly such as when a few guys kill thousands of people who went to work in a highrise building on a normal Tuesday morning. And as far as war is concerned, I'm no historian but I can think of no war that did not involve HATE in some way shape or form. Not sure how a situation would come to war without some element of hatred on one side or the other.

I'll admit. I didn't like it, but I don't like "toy shots." I try to be objective when voting, and I felt this one was masterfully done with regards to exposure, focus, etc. I also felt your choice of shallow dof was well chosen. To me, there is a greenish cast on it and it makes me feel like it should either be black or white. Oddly enough, I think the un-uniform top and bottom black frame is effective.

Not sure how you can get War,Racism, and Good vs. Evil.....out of plastic army men, unless you youself are planting the thought in a childs mind. Guess you could get the same idea wiht pepper and salt????

Nice DOF and a great idea. I like the quiet color tones too. Since you asked, IMO it's a "toy thing". For you to pull of a 5.7 with a toy shot is exceptional (not that this is an ordinary toy shot but hopefully you understand what I mean).

Very good depth perception. Not sure I like the border? Reminds me of wide screen TV picture.

As much as I hate seeing toys in challenges, this has to be my one execption. The coloring/toning and that marvelous shallow DOF just make this an awsome shot. I hope you don't get picked on for that border, which I personally think adds to the flow of the image.

Good idea. I would rather have seen it sharp throughout, as I don't think shallow DOF works in a far away shot like this. If you had been tighter ni on the two pieces in the foreground, that technique would have worked better, but here you're asking the viewer to look at all the pieces, not just the foreground ones, so a smaller f-stop would work better.

Wonderful! I love the composition, the shallow DOF, everything! It is a bit greeny in color though, is it possible to fix that? Or did you do that on purpose? Great shot.

I like the meaning behind this photograph. I also like how the soldiers get less blurry as you move towards the front of the photograph.
