grabbed the shot in the store. then he turned and growled at me. took my book, and ran. (i'd already paid for it...)

yes, the colour is the dreams of travel. and it has to come from the book, as it's the power of the book that fuels the dreams. ok, too tangential, but, ah well...

I like the desat--really brings out the subject. Nice composition.

you bad! you and your desat bad bad bad! otherwise a cool photo. maybe the splotch of color is supposed to represent the fantasy of travel? I can almost see that... maybe if you also desaturated the book in his hands.

Actually, I like the selective desat here and I think it is a neat shot. I'm just not sure it supports street photography though.

He growled? You should have had the beast with you - the beast could have growled back and that would have been that. I love the implication but can't say I'm in love with the desat. I also like how the only dominant word on the shelf itself is "CANADA".

ohhh, I'm sorry for leaving you such a bad comment:(
I still think I would prefer it without the saturation, I'm sorry for this Christian!

Nice capture but its doesn't say street to me. It actually says "inside a book store" to me.

I like this shot. Composition is good and the black/white with saturation only on the person works for me. 9

not sure that the selective desaturation adds anything to this. nice idea though.

I'm a travel addict so this one caught my eye straight away... I've spent many many many an hour reading through travel guides in libraries, shops and at home. The guides alone are an expensive hobby let alone the actual trips! Like the way the spotlight falls on the book.

Nice comp, but I think all B&W would have worked better.

I am not quite sure what to feel about this selective desat, it doesn't seem to support any idea here - but it's only my opinion! I wonder how it would look like in full color, with all those colorful books and nice lines? maybe i would also straighten the lines just a very little bit? perspective or lens correction? I like his pose, you captured it perfectly, but it's a bit too dark to see the details. is he sitting on the floor? - this is excellent! I wish I could see it a bit more clear.
