I love how the light just comes down through the clouds and between the buildings, seeing all the while not a single person but the lonely soul, a belated Congrats on your 15th place!

Love the mood captured here. The buildings are dark and gigantic - they seem to be pressing/closing in on the small & lone figure in the scene. The lone figure stands there isolated with buildings towering over him - almost swallowing him from sheer size. I see this as a conceptual piece commenting on the irony of how we can live in a large city/metropolis but yet can get lost and alone in it. I like how the middle third of the photo is light (things are illuminated) while the right & left thirds of the photo falls or is shadow. Again it adds to the feel of being closed in/isolated in/quartered off. The bridge is symbolic too. We only see a slice of it here - seemingly cut short because of the buildings. The bridge can be seen as symbolic of being able to get to places of reaching beyond a limited boundary. Here it does not offer the possiblity to escape from a boundary limitation. It does not offer the ability to cross. It is limited or cut off in it's visible span. Thus a visible 'road' that would allow the individual to escape/to travel 'out' of his/her confines of 'building bound' loneliness to open skies & friendly faces goes/leads nowhere. Wonderful street capture.

Congratulations. Very glad you achieved such a good grade! Those clouds are in just the right place. And the 3 - hydrant, person, truck - make for a nice odd number. Head backwards up that street towards the Navy Yard and there are some other nice locations too. The ConEd plant with its tall industrial chimney adjacent to the old Vinegar Hill houses offers and interesting juxtaposition.

Wonderful mood and lighting. Not sure how "natural" the lighting was moving up the sidewalk but it is very nicely done nonetheless. I like the imposing sides coming in. With the highlighted street, the man, the bridge, and then the far clouds shows great movement in the frame. Not too much to complain about the photo, maybe some dodging/burning issues around the figure, but overall an exceptional photo. It's not something I personally equate with "Street Photography" hence I gave it a lower rating, but just as a beautifully rendered photo and idea it garners HIGH marks in my book.

Great job on this, Sevil! Congratulations on your well-deserved high placement. The towering buildings and narrow perspective really serve to enhance the sense of isolation that you were going for.

Very interesting, squeezy feel to this but the tilt to the right is a bit unsettling to me as the viewer.

One of my favourites of the challenge.
I think the tight crop and the composition work extremely well.
Nice dodging and burning except for round the figure, which is the main reason i've not given this a 10.
Still gets a 9 mind.
Well done, brilliant photo.

it does bring out that emotion, I really like it...it almost looks like an old photograph from the 30s or 40s. I really like it. Very frameable.

Very nice. The wide angle works great. I guess perhaps in an ideal world the person could have been a little closer.

There is something about this picture that I really like. The lonely figure in an empty street lined up with tall buildings, little life around, the black and white, somewhat soft rendition conveys the idea of lonmeliness and despair (perhaps) quite well... I love it (10)
