Thanks for the comments.

This was taken on a misty/foggy night with a fairly long exposure. That is how I got the tones the way they are. I am unhappy with the light at the bottom of the tree as well. I took the time to combine the two shots I took into one I really liked. You can see the results here:

Great color. Was it taken with infra-red film. I wonder how you got the nice/intense color. The light (or reflection) is a little too bright for me. Otherwise, it's a beautiful photo.

I like the portrait mode of this shot. I feel the car light adds to the strange land feel of the shot. 8 -danny

this would appeal to me more without the bright spot at the foot of the tree, could you have used a slightly lower camera position?

Wow. The lighting is off the map on this one! Hard to say which I like more: the depth and range of the glow, or the contrast between the bright points of light and our mysterious stranger. This looks like a ribbon contender for sure! A well earned 9 from me!

I like this shot, I love the way you have captured the mystery here with the man in the shadows. Seems very real! Fits your title perfectly great shot

The two strong, different colour light highlights is confusing, but add to the desolation for me. 9

Good color, lighting and composition. Looks like a more modern interpretation of the Heinlein classic story.

this was the name of a DP Challenge, about a year ago. ( Few people knew it was a book.) This would have been perfect.

Yep, I like this composition a lot, colour is great - Heinlein is always orange to me, maybe that's because of all his ginger haired characters? I like the receding line of trees, the mistiness behind him and the glares of light. Only thing I'd like is for the lower glare to be more orange and less white.

Guess - could this be jjbeguin? If not, take it as a compliment, jj has fantastic pictures. This is a good entry to this challenge, one of the few so far that actually "tells a story". Good job.

Kewl golden lighting. Shooting from the ground up does a lot for this pic, the perspective is very appropriate adding that extra kick. The bright light at the base of the tree is a tad distracting however. Going by the starry effect on the lights out the back the exposure time must have been long, meaning your subject stood VERY still. Good one!

Color is very nice, warm. I like the shadow of the man standing there with the tree.
I\'m not too sure about that car\'s headlight whether It\'d be better if you get rid of it?
But i think it adds something on this picture.
