Challenge: Book Titles (Classic Editing)
Camera: PhaseOne LightPhase
Location: Out side flower shop
Date: Nov 11, 2003
Aperture: 5.6
ISO: 125
Shutter: 200
Date Uploaded: Nov 11, 2003

I borrowed this from a local flower shop. I took it out side and placed it on the brick sidewalk. I used a diffuser to soften the light. I tried many angles and compositions, and liked this one best. Hopfully it doesn't get slaughtered for being "just another flower photo". Also, sorry it is so small, this was all the larger the site would let me upload.

Greets from the Critique Club:

Hi Nick,
This is a nice clean shot. The DOF works well to isolate the lily from the background and the exposure is good, though maybe a bit dark. There is a bit of grain present, but not enough to really harm the image.

My main nit pick is in the composition.. I feel like the lily is hemmed in and that there's not enough space around it to really appreciate the beauty of the lily... I especially don't like that you've cut off the petals on either side of the picture. I understand that it was probably necessary under the conditions you were shooting, but I still don't like it.

I only see one lilly, just kidding. A flower shot really needs to be something spectacular to score high in a challenge. The color and composition is good though.

For me it's a little to grainy, though your angle and lighting is good. A more anonymous background would have helped focus attention on the flower as well.

seems dull. Without life. Could lighting and a different angle changed this photo?

nice macro shot. However your title is mispelled. Some may mark you down for it, I won't. I did read a thread about folks gripping about mispelled titles. The composition is excellent.
