Wow, just made it. Submitted something else the day the challenge was live, but changed my mind at the last second.

Could be my last pic with the E20 so hope it scores me a ribbon!

From the Critique Club

This is technically an excellent shot. The focus is spot on and the DOF is a touch shallow for my taste but I kind of like it in this instance. The lighting on the rose is excellent. It brings out every fold and crevice.

IMHO this shot suffers from the B/W treatment. I LOVE color and think that in this shot it can only help. As is, with the B/W treatment it doesn't hold my attention. I do think that it helps to disguise the reflection in the fork.

Oh and this being a studio type shot, I would have rotated the rose so the defect in the petal at top would not be visible.

So in my opinion, a great shot that would only benefit from some color!

Interesting contrast between the shiny silver and the matte rose. I'd crop in from the left - the out of focus stuff doesnt; add anything to the picture and is distracting. Watch the refelctions in the silver - next time hold up a solid color paper close enough to fill the "mirror" of the object.

I liked the idea of this literalism but thought it would have portrayed that better if the rose was actually between 2 thorns. The silver from the fork with it's reflection is kind of distracting.
