Critique Club review:

Howdy Jon,

I have to agree with some of the comments given to you. A child or children in the shot would have added a lot to the title you chose. I still believe the photo fits the title and challenge.

I love old trains and you have captured this one quite well. The train appears to be very dark and lighter parts of the train are hard to photo, do to over exposure. You handled this well. The bell, lights, name, number, etc...work well.

The only negative, I can see is the background, which would be hard to change. The ceiling, including air/heating structures are not modifying the train and is somewhat distracting the shot. I'm not sure if that could have been change by shooting at a different angle, but I always try to shoot as many angle as posible to avoid distraction from the subject.

I hope this makes sense. I like the shot and hope to see many more of you photographs.

Wonderful shot of the Bristolian. I wish the lanterns weren't burned out, but the range on this shot must have been daunting to capture. I'd love to see a finished print using a contrast mask to increase and control the apparent range of values.

Great image but a bit too literal for the theme.

Pity you couldn't get some children into the picture - it would have fitted the title better.

might have appealed to me more if it were color, to match the memories from my mother's reading it to me and my sisters so many years ago

A lovely picture with wonderful leading lines - I like how it all seems to come forth from the lower left corner. I can't help thinking it would tie in better were there a couple of kids on the platform - even if they were reasonably far back along the platform. Focus seems a touch soft?

children?? where is the human element you alluded to in title. This is a musueum Picture (a nice one though). Needs a little girl in white with a little hat on the stage.
