These dogs are mainly used for protecting the vehicles and equipment.

The drovers drive the cattle on horseback along the long paddock for up to 9 months a year. The long paddock originated over a century ago when there was little to no water available for the stock. The cattle were then driven out onto the roads and covered hundreds of kilometers grazing the roadside. Not only did this keep the roadside trimmed but the cattle were conditioned. This tradition has continued to this day.

This week I will be covering the crossing of paths of two extremely large herds of cattle as they venture on their way.

Very attentive and intellegent animals, them herding dogs. Great photograph, like the choice of DOF for this. Cool light as well.

This is one of my favorites out of them all Judi.....
I love how you have capturd the essence of the dog in this shot.....
I love the long grass in front of him and all arounf him.
A true Aussie shot for me.....

Thanks for uploading another doggie shot. This is just super duper!!!! Makes me smile just looking at it. The focus and depth of field are perfect. Love the blur of the grasses in the foreground. He's such a striking creature. Love the spot over the eye.
