The drovers tend with extreme elements of the Australian land and climate. The dust billows in the bush as the cattle are herded through to their holding yards at the end of the day.

The drovers drive the cattle on horseback along the long paddock for up to 9 months a year. The long paddock originated over a century ago when there was little to no water available for the stock. The cattle were then driven out onto the roads and covered hundreds of kilometers grazing the roadside. Not only did this keep the roadside trimmed but the cattle were conditioned. This tradition has continued to this day.

This week I will be covering the crossing of paths of two extremely large herds of cattle as they venture on their way.

Very nice Judi, esp with me coming from a Canadian cowboy family I have a lot of respect for just about anyone on a cattle drive :)

Simply ASTOUNDING image, this. I love how the signature is now less prominent but easily readable, and I already told you that I think the font on your signature is super.

BUT WOW! ... What a beautiful capture of the subject and the surroundings. The light is mesmerizing.

Love the hazy, dusty look in this capture. It really invokes the feel of a dusty, hard, and hot day in the bush for these Drovers. One just doesn't look at the photo ya feel it. I think this is the best of the bunch to capture 'feel' of what a Drover does and deals with each and every day.

Fabulous shot. Very understated, almost muted in colour but such a strong image. Really impressive.

Definately this one is my favorite out of them all.....
A truely Australian look, at real life, real people, and a truely breathtaking series of a Drovers life.....
I just love the dust and misty feeling this one has, with the Eucalyptus trees in the dusty background......
Perfect calendar shot again with this one Judi, maybe June, as that is my birthday..... No, this one has to be on the cover.....

This carries an amazing amount of MOOD...I can feel the heat and I can choke on the dust...the perspective of the telephoto has created a dramatic effect...Go BIGMA!
