6-00am and the drover heads to the holding yards to collect the cattle. The dogs look on in anticipation.

The drovers drive the cattle on horseback along the long paddock for up to 9 months a year. The long paddock originated over a century ago when there was little to no water available for the stock. The cattle were then driven out onto the roads and covered hundreds of kilometers grazing the roadside. Not only did this keep the roadside trimmed but the cattle were conditioned. This tradition has continued to this day.

This week I will be covering the crossing of paths of two extremely large herds of cattle as they venture on their way.

Thought I was done commenting on the series, but I had to leave one more. The light is incredible, and so is the composition. The dog in the corner looking at you is the cherry on top.

Judi this has to be the best collection of Australiana that I have seen for some time, your colors are great and show the hardship of the man on the land.
If I were you, would be putting copyright on them before they are clicked and saved and sold by an unknown party for a fortune to a calender company before you do.

Very rural, very country, and very Australian.....
I love this series of a "Drovers Life", and I hope you think about making an Australian Calendar, out of this series, as I think it would sell well.....

Judi, these photographs are absolutely amazing! You have opened my eyes to a way of life I didn't know still existed - I am looking forward to spending time going through the entire series.
