It took about 150 pictures and about 4 hours before I got a shot I could live with. I wanted an action picture so it was very difficult with my "old" camera to get it sharp enough to be satisfactory.

why use pencils

If only things were a tad more in focus and the glare wasn't so bright on the yellow pencil. Otherwise, a lovely photo. Good job!

I like this one just for the bird!

You must have had to wait for a long time to get this shot...

thats one fast shutter

wow, I don't think I've ever seen a humming bird up close like that. Kind of looks like an earless bat. Great use of pencils. The angle, lighting and focus are great. There's a bit of a glare on the yellow pencil, but I've found that you can't get too picky when dealing with animal photos. especially fast moving animals. Great shot. Good luck with the challenge.

Very cleverly done... A great effort on a hard to get shot. Focus is slightly off, but apart from that small gripe it's a good picture.

You get points jsut for having a hummingbird almost completely frozen. I like the color contrast! karmat

you really must do a bird tutorial. Our hummingbird pictures NEVER turn out this nicely!!

Feels like the pencils have been stuck there purely to allow a photo of bird to be entered. Fair enough, just seem really out of place in it. I know those little fellas move way too fast but it's just too blurry for me. I do like the way the green background forms it's own wonderful shape between the shadows.

Nice catch of the hummingbird! Truly creative use of the pencils.

Great photo. I would expect the bird's wings to be blurry, but the sharpness on the pencils and feeders is a little lacking.
08/19/2002 05:16:00 AM
I you get a good score on this one so think the bird for it the pencils are not doing out anything there.I canĀ“t give you wery high score because I think you are using the bird to much for this shot. On the other hand it is a wery good picture of the bird end nice to see his wings. Good luck thou -rocco22-

This was a clever way to get a really nice shot and still meet the challenge. Unfortunately, there's that wing blocking the bird's face. There's a graininess that maybe shooting at a higher resolution and then resizing could fix. Why the yellow pencil? The bird's perch seems sufficient to meet the challenge. 4

pencil is over exposed
