Okay, about two years ago, I found a little dog while working at a gas station. He was bloated and starved and had obviously been run over by a car (at least dinged a little).

He had all manners of worms and the vet said it was lucky I found him. I took him home and loved him for a long long time. He loved me back even more.

He was with me through every moment of my pregnancy with my daughter (even slept in the bed with me sometimes because my husband was in Iraq). In short, he became my best friend.

We watched Animal Planet 24/7. I can watch it no longer.

Then, in November of 2005, he followed the car down to the highway and someone swerved out of the road and hit him. He died instantly. My heart is broken. People can be so cruel.

I took him to the most beautiful hilltop on my family's land and buried him there. He gets to see a breathtaking sunset every evening.

Sometimes, I go and sit with him. Most of the time, Chief goes with me. I miss that little dog so much... still.

The pictures on the left were the only ones I had and were taken with a camera phone. My computer crashed early last year and I lost a lot of really good pictures of him. These had been uploaded to Snapfish. Thank goodness.

DOES THE PAIN EVER STOP???

I don't know if you've seen this before, but I love this poem. I had to put down one of my cocker spaniels in Dec. '06 the day after my birthday, it was awful, I still see her little eyes looking at me.

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

That's so sad Jojo, he was such an adorable dog. I lost the cat I grew up with 6 years ago & I still see have moments when I think if her & can't help but feel the pain all over again.

I feel like I'm about to cry at work. It is so sad when we lose our best friends, particularly in this way. I cannot fathom what it will be like when I lose mine. Although Chief cannot replace Albert, know that he misses him too. And Chief knows you miss him. I'm sure Albert misses you too but he appreciates the sunsets every evening.

Great. Now I'm crying at work.

This is very touching and a really sad story to boot. I am sorry you had to see that happen to him. That is probably what sticks with you more than anything.

The thing to try and focus on tho is the quality time each of you gave each other. He might have died sooner had you not found him when you did. No doubt the time he spent with you was pure quality time.

This is a lovely tribute page and how wonderful that you were able to salvage these pics.

He is beautimus. :)

Big hugs!

I read something today that made me think of you Johnna:

"Don't be sad because it's over, smile because it happened".

Easier said than done, but if you let it mull around your head a while, it makes complete sense.

I just had to click on this and read your comments while I had a mushy song playing - and no Kleenex warning!
Little I can offer other than cherish the memories and know you provided Albert a good life, love and care that so many never get.
*hugs*

Very sad story. It may hurt but always good to remember our loved ones.

Love the emotion and great natural lighting.

AWWWWWWW I can so relate.

Pets creep into our hearts, steal them and then they break when the animal is gone. This is beautiful.

We had a dog do a similar thing. She ran out in the road chasing a jogger and some *@$$$hole hit her (not on purpose) and then just kept on going. My wife ran out into the street with cars racing past her and no one stopped. We still think of her and the many pictures we took of her help, if it is any consolation. My thoughts are with you.

I had a dog that has been gone for 6 years now. She got out of the yard and some asshole shot her. To this day I still miss her and he is still due and ass whipping when I run into him. Very nice shot of your emotions.

If it's any consolation (or just to change the subject), you did a fine job on the picture! :)

Time heals. ...eventually.
