the blur represents motion, and the path on which he moves is gloriously emphasized by the railing and the composition. all we see of the parent is an arm. an unsentimental yet visceral portrait of growing up and going forward. 9

I usually don't care for shallow DOF. But here I think it works. I'm backwards I guess, 'cause I know a lot of people love shallow DOF but would think that this shot has your subject blurry / out of focus. But I really feel that there is emphasis on the sidewalk for a reason - like the kid really is showing the way. I do wish that the figure on the left were more in the frame but other than that I like this a bunch.
