The DOF might be too shallow for most people, but I like it! ;P

I do wish I had a picture where the front of the eye is sharp as well, just to see how that would have looked like. Unfortunately I don't -this was actually selected from few test shots and I wasn't originally planning to use this one when I shot it.

But when I saw it on the monitor, I knew straight away that this is The One I want to submit -Gemmas' (the Dog) eye really works like a magnet and draws the viewers' attention. Which, I guess, is the whole idea of a shallow DOF.

I have no idea where the flare comes from, must be a reflection from snow(?) as the sun was almost directly behind me.

Nice color. Composition might be easier to grasp with the other eye in the picture also.

Though the eye is sharp I feel this image would work better as a proper pet portrait using the same composition. (Deeper DOF)

You nailed it - Great challenge entry - Tells a lot about the situation and subject. If there is one nit pick it's the bright white mark in the lower left corner. Still a 10 from me - Nice.

My eye wants to wander off towards the blue void. Maybe if I could see more of the dog's eye, or perhaps the composition was changed a bit... Excellent DOF though, and an interesting shot.

The negative space seems excessive. The dog part of the image is strong, perhaps a tighter crop?
