Challenge: Table Shot II (Basic Editing)
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Lens: Sigma 24mm f/1.8 EX Aspherical DG DF Macro for Canon
Location: Tabletop, of course
Date: Jan 26, 2007
Aperture: f/11
ISO: 100
Shutter: f/250
Galleries: Macro, Advertisement
Date Uploaded: Jan 28, 2007

Cut lead crystal champagne flute being filled (Piper Heidsieck redtop). Thought i'd avoid the cliche of wide-angle obviously on-the-table shots by going for a tighter crop of something obviously table-bound. Going for a crop this tight is meant to be quite abstract but essentially recognisable.

Would have liked advanced editing to clean up the odd reflections at the top, but never mind. Not sure you can make out the champagne being poured in the top right - the full shot looked like:

But i wasn't at all pleased with how dark the bottle looked, and the flatness of the composition.
Editing: slight boost in contrast, crop, resize, sharpen.

I think that this photo is absolutely gorgeous. I love the way the bubbles in the champagne capture the light. I also find the fact that the whole glass isn't photographed very interesting.

I like the textures created between the bubbly and the glass design. Great compostion and cropping also.

Perhaps you intended for the reflection to be there, and I can appreciate that it adds definition to the glass, but it seems to me to detract from the purpose of the shot. You've captured the bubbles and the colour beautifully but the reflection destroys that.

Also I think that this kind of shot is fine as a technical exercise or an advert but it doesn't hold any sustaining interest for me.

Oooh! love the clarity of this one. I wished I saw more of the bottom though and the image was a bit wider.

This would make a nice stock image if not for the hot spot on the glass. LOVE the bubbles!

While this is a nice shot of a glass & liquid, it's hard to know that a table is involved. Looks like a studio setup shot. Nothing personal, just an observation. Good luck in the challenge.

I like the way that the bubbles in the glass creates texture and movement. Good job.

This is such a hard challenge to vote on because of shots like this. This perspective is obviously from a "table top view" so you can't say it doesn't meet the challenge. I keep thinking about the "not normally viewed" part of the challenge however. Anyway, I really like the shot and give it an 8 only deducting 2 for my own aesthetic opinion of the subject.

I really love how sharp the image is in this photograph It shows alot of details within the glass and the bubbles.

camera wasn't on the table top or glass has no stem - otherwise you couldn't have the full frontal perspective. besides that, the reflection is too bright IMO
