 I decided to turn things around a bit and use the out-of-focus area in front of the main subject, I hope no-one feels like it isn't a shallow DOF just because it has no background.

I had to work on it a bit because of the poor light I had but I didn't do anything that isn't allowed, mostly levels-work for the white background.

The solid white background looks too much like a stock shot. Just not a lot of interest here, even though I know you are trying to "tell a story". This is just honest feedback, not meaning to be insulting.
