Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Best of 2006 (Advanced Editing V*)
Camera: Nikon D70
Lens: Tamron SP AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di for Nikon
Location: Appalachian State Studio
Date: Apr 11, 2006
Aperture: f14
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/60
Galleries: Portraiture, Diptych / Triptych
Date Uploaded: Jan 11, 2007

Shot in the studio with white backdrop and beauty dish off camera left. Held the camera in my hands and made some faces. Then experimented with the draganizer filter, dodging and burning, selecting my eyes, sharpening and enhancing color. A teacher of mine printed this out in a poster size for one of our class rooms. Its kind of weird with my watching over everyone.

I was going to give you a 6, which would have lowered your score, so I'm glad I didn't. As I said, I love the composition - excellent sharpness, POV, DOF. The processing just threw me off.

Fantastic expression! The post processing has me thinking of a caricature or cartoon character!

Still never quite got over this one - in a good way of course - brings a smile to my face.
Amazing at how much the thumbnail looks like a caricature drawing like one would get at an amusement park.

Too over processed for my personal taste.
I can appreciate it though.

You need to get a lens that is a little less sharp, what excruciating details! Great textures and tones in the face. Is that foundation make-up you are using?

I usually don't like way over-photoshopped images, but this one grabs hold of me. Kind of like a modern art painting. Nice job.

Great job and I really like how you have processed it into the final product (Mad magazine flare to it). Excellent result. Good Luck.

If only it wasn't for that utterly bizarre processing, this could surely have been a delightfully self-deprecatory image.

interesting processing. like the composition but going to pass on voting as not my style - don't want to lower what may be a decent score due to my bias.

Would you please reveal the type of processing you did?

Quite a bit of post processing here. Make for a cartoonish portrait. I'm not complaining because it is very funny.

This is one of the best applications I’ve seen for the “pushed” HDR/dragonized looking processing. In general I’m not a big fan of the look. Mostly because the photos I’ve seen it used on would have looked better or more natural, without it. I have seen this techniques done well here on DPC where the HDR adjustments were barely detectable and not pushed to the cartoon stage on landscapes and such. I have seen the dragon filter used only a few times where I have actually liked the effect. You have managed to successfully pair the “pushed” HDR/dragon filter look (for lack of a better word) up with an animated expression. Top-notch work in every way and to date this is my favorite “animated looking” processing here at DPC. High marks from me. Good luck in the challenge

What's up with your left eye? The pupil seems blue? Otherwise, I like that you kept the imperfections, nice. (I mean that in the kindest way possible)
