There's not enough darkness in the photo to contrast well imo. A darker background I think would've helped.

hey, I've got a Tyler too! My nephew. What a cutie! Had the lighting not been quite so "washing" on Tyler's face, it would have been more catching.

Perhaps a more contrasting background would have softened the harsh whiteness of this shot

Harsh flat lighting probably from on-camera flash. The way you processed the skin creeps me out to be blunt. The skin looks like plastic. No offense.
