This is Lilja, I decided to translate her name to english for the title so people wouldn´t immediately recognize her as Icelandic. First time taking pictures of her, actually I had never even met her before taking these photos. Henny couldn´t come along as we had babysitter trouble so Lilja did her own makeup.

Lighting is ambient + a silver reflector I held with my left hand, you can see it reflected in her eyes.

Post processing was setting contrast in raw processing, then cropped to a 5:4 frame, b/w conversion with channel mixer, a little healing brush, very slight dodging and finally sharpened after resizing.

I wanted this picture to be high key even though I have noticed that high key pictures don´t do as well as low key pictures here at DPC, hope voters prove me wrong this time :)

Oh and on a side note, this is my first picture in this photo a week project.

Congratulations! It serves me right. I think I am simply too strict and often looking for a message, especially when it comes to black and white pictures.

Larus - looking at my comments on this photo - I meant to say stellar image AND processing. It is both! Even though you translated the title to English and used high key, I picked this out as yours right away. I really am surprised this did not end up in top 5 or top 10. Thanks for sharing another great image with us.

Bro this shoulda been a def. top 10 spot. Maybe because of all the entries. Whatever the case, I love how you got a model that brought the best part out on a woman, Her lips....Beautiful lips, sharpness on her eyes is great. Composition is right on, thats where I think I messed up on my shot, and your DOF is right on also. Well done Larus, Top 10 in my book.

Yes! Very nice. Great clarity and details where it counts and soft focus elsewhere. Well lit. Not dark and gloomy. B/W tonal range covered completely. Job well done! Best of luck to you in the challenge.

There seems to be something a bit odd about her right shoulder. Maybe something happened in PP. Beautiful eyes!

Expertly done. Probably ribbon. Nothing I would change. Tiny nitpick...I'd like to see a tad less eye makeup.

Ok, there is a raging debte about people's voting habits at the moment, so i will attempt to give a detailed comment with my vote:

Great focus on the eyes with the use of shallow DOF. nice bokeh on jacket and branches. The eyes seem to catch my attention and i dont wan to look away. That's a good sign. Nice contrast and the use of a tweed jacket (patterns). 8? is that fair?

Beautiful shot. The eyes really make this stand out in the thumbnail but on the photo it almost seems like too much. I think it's because there is very little contrast in her skin and then the eyes have a ton of contrast. Perhaps adding some darker parts like in the creases of the mouht would have helped balance it?

Other than that this is a lovely photo. Beautiful model, love the blurred background and choice of a darker coat.
