 The photo was taken at the Illinois State Fair on August 10, 2006. This soldier was part of the military procession that lead the opening parade. He was riding in a jeep and when I stepped out to take a picture, he had the driver stop and he possed for me. I took the shot, he smiled and winked at me. I felt like I had just be given a pot of gold.

Jen, I reeeeeeeeeally love this photo! As soon as I saw it in the challenge, I thought it was so awesome and emotive. I've always been a real rah-rah person about the military anyway -- but the way this was processed -- the character in his face. In fact. . .this one's going straight into my favorites folder!

I think its quite underrated too!

Scrolling through the post-challenge thumbs and this is one of a few that jump out. Great shot! Excellent focus and composition! It does have that WWII war journalist photo feel to it also.

I think the subject is fascinating. His gaze really grabs you.

I think maybe a little more contrast would have made this Bolder.
