 My trip to Italy with my son Brian in May, 2006. Just an unbelievably wonderful vacation and a great chance to spend some bonding time with my older son. I literally took thousands of pictures. I knew I would have to pick one at the end of the year to use for this challenge. So many favorites to choose from but this one stuck out as the "Classic Italy portrait". Maybe not very original or creative but a moment in time that I will remember forever. It was very unusual to find the Grand Canal to vacant of other boats. It is normally very crowded. I was lucky to be able to capture this single Gondola making its way down the canal towards sunset. Cropped, Levels, Curves, some cloning out of minor distacting elements, sharpened.

Yes, very classic. I was in Venice a few years ago too, but I wasn't able, to get a shot like this. Respect! Good luck in the challenge!

This is a nice shot that would be a great test subject for HDR. If you don't know what I mean, go to this site: //www.hdrsoft.com/
Photomatix offers a free trial version, click on 'Download free trial' to the right of the pic of the Eifel Tower. Above that is 'View examples', click on that to see what this does, including a picture very much like this one! Notice the detail in the sky that your shot could have. You can do this with a regular JPEG, just not as high quality and possibilities.

Oh I love this! Love the mood. Love the tones and processing! Love the "old" feel to the architecture. This is one of my favorites and highest rated photos!
