 This is the flower of the Pohutakawa tree. Referred to as the New Zealand Christmas tree, it blooms around Christmas time. Depending on when it actually blooms, it is said to be an indicator of how long the summer is going to be. If it blooms early, it will be a long summer & if it blooms late, a short summer.
