This fern, growing out of the rock face about 5 feet high caught my attention as I walked by. I tried different exposures and settled for this one using the Camera Flash unit. This fern recieves no direct moisture but was definately 'waiting' for me to photograph it. This is my first submission to a 'Challenge'. Rod.

What a fascinating find. Nice colors and focus.

Well sure, meets the challenge, no doubt. However, the lighting is what´s bothers me most, the obvious and harsh flash lighting to be specific. I see it´s shot in a cave (wich I find hard to believe, fern´s need sunlight to survive but whatever...) but that´s no excuse since your subject is stationary. A tripod, longer shutter and softer lighting coming from some angle than on camera would dramatically have improved this shot :) 4 from me.

This is very harshly lit... You used the flash on the camera? Next time try not using the flash. Instead put the camera on a tripod and let it expose for as long as it likes... Results should be much less harsh and have more depth!

While it is a harsh environment it also looks like a snapshot of it.

I didn't really care for the photo...but my son saw it and said it was perfect for the challenge. So, on second thought, I'd have to say 'yes' - it fits the challenge well. However, I was looking for more use of expert editing rather then snapshots.
