I know, a flower in a Free Study? Am I crazy? It's been a really busy, stressful month, so I didn't get out much to shoot. My mom gave us this nice Christmas Cactus and the flowers are really pretty, so I dragged it down to the basement.

I shot this with a black mat board background and a single small desk lamp lighting it from the left and behind. I used a 13mm extension tube with my 50mm 1.8 lens.

Post Process:
convert from RAW
crop
resize
levels to select background as black point
bumped the saturation ever so slightly
Noise Ninja
USM
cloned out a couple small spots on the flower
selected the stem and turned the brightness down
stroke

I just opened your last free study and a flower appeared. The first impression was: o man, a flower on a free study. But then I saw the star at the water droplet and thought "that's a nice touch, adding to the cliché". You know that this is perfectly done in terms of the technique, lightning, composition (although, more negative space would be better, I guess...also, some arrangements of the petals, so that they don't cover each other).
But, it's a nice photo, a chance to relax... I can easily see this in any calendar or wall of a florist.

You are the second macro that came up and since I do like macro photography, I am giving this an 8. Good luck. :)

Beautifully done. Vibrant color against the black and I love the crop. Back to bump you up to 8.

Beautiful...
Colours and composition are spot on - and the light reflection in the drop adds the finishing touch to a very nice picture.
