I took a picture of this gate earlier in the day to capture the pattern of the gate itself. Later, when I passed by, the sun was casting a shadow of that pattern on the pavers, which had their own pattern. The gate and arch in the distance are the same as the one in front, and I lined up the gates to create a pattern within the pattern. Unfortunately that is not very visible in this reduced size.

I think with advanced editing, I will be able to improve this image, and when viewed full size, or printed 8x10, it will be more effective.

Julianne,
Is it just me, or is the pattern in that gate eerily similar to the pattern in the window I entered? Your photo is without doubt a lot stronger, though, and I'm surprised it didn't garner at least a 5.5. I'm trying to figure out why the relatively low score, and can only think it is due to voters looking for more repetition in pattern (and a slightly blown sky). I really like this, think it has good composition, and I like the business. Just goes to show you can't please 'em all, right? 7 from me.

pattern-wise I think you met the challenge very well, evern though it might be a little busy. I love the colors, they have a very summery feel to them. The only thing I would wish could have been have changed was the sky being blown out, but editing was basic so you really couldn't have done much about that.

I like this shot but to me it just seems a bit busy. It's very colorful and well composed however. I gave this a 6.

Lovely scene, but the pattern is not the "Star"

Each pattern is fighting for attention, resulting in loss of focus. And the picture would be vastly improved if taken on a cloudy day.

Be carefull when taking photos with sunlight. Often it is better to have a overcast sky.

I would like to be able tos ee the brick paving pattern even where it is in the sunlight. And the over exposure above the gate is distracting.
