Challenge: Pattern II (Basic Editing)
Camera: Sony Ericsson K800i
Location: Sheffield
Date: Dec 22, 2006
Aperture: 2.8
ISO: 80
Shutter: 1/320
Date Uploaded: Dec 22, 2006

Grabbed in the city centre, with my k800 camera phone. Bit of a gamble entering this as it lacks definition and sharpness, which DPCers are woeful of.

Really basic editing. I would have liked the advanced ruleset for this one, because a few bits annoy me, I would have cloaned out detail around the edge of the waterfall - cropping it at the top didn't work because the border is then too heavy.

Editing then was just crop, levels (darker), auto contrast, resize and USM.

I love the pattern in this, but maybe you could have cropped out all of the sky and that angle on the left, which are somewhat distracting. Then the shadows of the water would stand out more, giving more emphasis on "pattern". Also the focus seems just a tad soft.

Interesting idea. Personaly I would have liked to see a tighter crop to not show anything outside the fountain. Also, it appears to have a neat image feel and usm that just doesn't work for me. But it is a very creative Idea. Also the shadow of the side wall into the fountain distracts. Think of what this would look like at a differnt time of day with the shadows of the water and no others...

The more I look at this, the more I like it; I originally thought it was ice, but then realized it was water. There do seem to be some focusing issues (it's lost at some points where I think it wasn't intentional). It's still a nice shot, though!

Nice composition. I do feel that you could have cropped the skyline from the top as its a little distracting

You choose to use the shadow as a pattern. I think they are disturbing rather than enhancing. A different time of the day might give you better result. Don`t be lazy to go back an other time. I am not sure if you have captured the best possible angle here 4

I would have cropped the top portion to make it a cleaner pattern. I like this shot nonetheless.

Without sky it would be better ...I think.

This is nice but I think you should have cropped the sky out.

Nice pattern, however I think I would have cropped it to eliminate the sky, wire, and buildings, JMO however.

This is a delightful composition of shapes. If it was mine, I'd probably try for a bit more "lights" and "darks" and maybe even eliminate the sky all together, but still, it's a lovely piece.

Interesting pattern, but the focus is soft.
