I thought about this image for some time - not really for the challenge specifically - just a style that I've been working on. As such, I am sure that some will feel that it is a DNMC image. However, I feel that the sky in this photo as the source of the white light is the compelling part of it. While it lacks specific details such as clouds, blue color, etc, it has a spiritual presence nonetheless. This, in my opinion, is the defining nature of this shot.

i could not agree more about the sky here, in fact its more than a sky its another world. a world the man seems to be contemplating wishing apon his son.
this is an inspiring photograph.

Hello matty, knew this was Japan, thought it might be you, got a 6 from me, surprised to see it rate so low, but, you know what.... DPC voters have a certain style they like and if you go outside that style then you MIGHT get a bomber. Keep doing what YOU like best mate, and good luck.

Thanks to klstover and Magnus for your comments. Those two comments alone made it worthwhile. I appreciate your willingness to look beyond the standard way of thinking. cheers!

Sorry, the sky isn't much an element here.

Well, I wonder if you are getting DNMC comments. I personally feel like the sky is a very "key" element to this image as it really provides the entire context for the rest of the shot. I'm bumping you up a point for uniqueness and creativity in interpreting the challenge.

Not really seeing sky so much as sunlight in this picture.

Maybe it's just the aspect ratio, but this looks just like a still from a movie

While the image tells a story, I cannot see the connection to the theme "sky"

I don't really see the sky as the main subject and technically, it's pretty average

I'm sure many won't agree, but I really like what the lens flare does for this image.
