I'm sorry but the dirt by itself is not a strong enough subject to hold the eye...

Nice study in lighting and shadows, but it's somewhat too abstract/simple -- for a higher score, it probably would do better with an added element, like an insect, a flower, a shoe, etc.

Right to the point, but not an overly interesting looking dirt patch. For some reason, it's sharp on the right but unsharp on the left as it goes down the drop off. If you didn't intend it to be that way, inquire about "depth of field" in the tech help section of the forum. It's really tricky to get a captivating photo of "real dirt".

A number of entries lack a subject for the eye to rest on. This just avoids that with the angled line and the contrast of light/dark. Still, I'm hoping for a little more. 5
