The Friendship is permanently moored at Pickering Wharf in Salem, MA. I couldn't resist taking a shot of this masterpiece as the sun sets to the right.

Save down from RAW, Levels, NN, Unsharp mask, Save down to 640p. I know this was supposed to be for "expert" editing, but I wanted to get my photo technique down first.

EDIT POST-CHALLENGE:
Thanks to everyone for the comments and support. I'm psyched this is my personal best and it allowed me to achieve a score of 6 or higher, one of my goals.

As for the comments on relevance, I guess it's a matter of opinion. IMO, the sky is integral to this photo. It provides the color, the mood, and the backdrop. The challenge said the sky should be a "key element", not the "subject" of the photo. I think I have achieved that here.

Thanks again!

This is gorgeous! The sky has a beautiful color blend and I love the reflection in the water. Everything is sharp and crisp - love it!

::: Greetings from Critique Club :::

I have had the privilege of writing a critique on your photograph.

First Impression - the most important one:
Wow...I love it. Then it starts to set in the sky does help this photograph make it more appealing and comfortable to look at. I can see how the voters may overlook that area as the main focal point show the ship.

Composition:
Changing the crop of shooting from further or even using a wider angle could have changed the effect dramatically. With a wider angle you could have achieved the full refelection in the water of the ship and also added more gradient in throughout the photograph of the sky. Not sure but maybe even the sun setting.

Subject:
The subject here being the ship is just phenominal. I love the sharpness you have been able to capture.

Technical (Colour, focus, and light):
Focus is a dead on, color and exposure worked very well as both the ship and the gradient sky look very natural.

To grow its vote?:
Pay more attention to croping and shooting wider in a situation like this. I sometimes try and think of how the voters taking a quick glance at it may look at the photograph.

Summary:
Overall very nice to look at and maybe even re-shoot challenge someday.

Keep up the good work.

I think any photo that scores over 6 in this "beyond-belief" challenge has achieved "phenomenal" status :) This photo is so incredibly beautiful! Probably a ribbon winner in any other challenge!

Nice image. The focus is on the ship and its reflection. Little, if anything other than tones, the sky contributes to it...

This is truly breathtaking! I love gorgeous pictures of ships anyway, but this one is even the best of the best of them! And its the pink in the sky and how it reflects in the water that makes this a perfect fit for the sky challenge. . .and a perfect 10 for me!

The main element of the photo is not the sky, but hey...good photo so I won't mark you down.

I like this quite a bit, but the sky doesn't seem to be the focal point

Beautiful photo; probably not enough focus on the sky for this challenge.

Absolutely beautiful rendering here, superb colors & clarity. Whether the voters as a group will see this as a "sky" shot (as opposed to a "boat & water" shot, is an open question. Of course the challenge says make sky a "key element", and it is that, but I am half-expecting voters to mark down images where the sky is not the main "subject". Good luck to you!

This is a wonderful imageof the Friendship - but I don't see a sky as a major element in the image - 6
