Challenge: Free Study XV (Advanced Editing IV)
Collection: Portfolio
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Lens: Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 Di II LD Aspherical (IF) for Canon
Location: High School Gym
Date: Nov 30, 2006
Aperture: f/8
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/20
Galleries: Sports, Portraiture
Date Uploaded: Nov 30, 2006

Photo's purpose: To be featured on the back, color page of my schools newspaper. The article is about an extremely talented basketball player and the sports editor didn't want a typical action shot.

Light setup: Two Sunpak 555's into umbreallas to the side and slightly behind the player. One vivitar 285 in front with a tee shirt draped over for diffusion. I probably should have turned down the flash on his left, our right, down about a stop. Oh well.

Editing was fairly simple, removed a color cast, croped, curves, sharpen.

This is a very different prospective. I can't tell if I like it or if it is distracting and causing a headache to come about. I think I like it though, it just looks a bit out of proportion.

A slower shutter speed could have been really cool on the ball.

the only thing I don't like is the strange optical illusion that the net is sitting right on top of the ball. 6

Too bad his face was not lit as well as the ball
