General John Sedgwick was a corps commander in the Army of the Potomac during the Civil War.  At the battle of the Wilderness, while inspecting his troops, he approached a parapet and peered out over the surrounding countryside.  His officers and men urged him to take cover from small arms fire, but Sedgwick scoffed at their concerns, "What! What men! This will never do, dodging from single bullets!"   As the general spoke his last words, he was shot in the head by a Confederate sharpshooter.

Some people commented it was so orange. Actually it is. it's a "WHITE Elephant", as they say. This is evidenced by its' pinkish skin and WHITISH eyes. This was taken sundown. Light being cast from the ground reflected on the face. Thus the orangy cast.

some thought it was over processed. actually, when I hit autocontrast and auto-color, this is what I got. I adjusted saturation just a tad. I like the color this way, FIERY, it's so unique. Although, as Pointandshoot commented, I was punished for it, still, I think its gorgeous, perfect for a Thailand postcard. Thanks for those who have given me a vote higher than my average.

there was a debate on the forum regarding "misunderstanding" and different interpretations of the challenge. If I only knew... (just read forum on Famous Last Words Scores)... i would have just titled my entry...

"Don't worry it can't reach us" or simply "She's harmless."

I thought I'd get a higher score for doing something creative. Oh well, as they say, this is DPC. Little chance you can please the MAJORITY here.

Peace!

good history lesson for the kids, but i thought his final words were, "boy i needed that like a hole in the head, oh wait...". oddly your elephant makes me think of salmon.

I love the processing and composition on this, however I think you will be punished for your creativity. I suspect you know that. -10

the colour is all wrong and the eye looks bad, I like the crop though and the shot has potential

Weird post-processing.....totally obscure reference.....too much homework to really get decent votes.

Interesting colours. It's a shame that the elephant's looking away, and also that it has red-eye; I think this detracts from the similar colours on the skin.

ok, i see your point, but the challenge was about "famous last words", in brackets, not about something specific that some1 said...

Oh my goodness, I was going to do this quote but I couldn't think of anything good to take a picture of! We must have looked at the same site for last quotes!
