I had a wire basket, i put a purple light in it and shot a photo from above, most of the effect is the shadow on the carpet.

Looks like you may have underexposed just a tad too much. The monitor you are using might not be calibrated correctly. I think that it looks like the setup you used may have potential, but you need to figure out a more effective way to execute the shot.

Love the picture, but I'm having trouble seeing the "diagonal axis as the major compositional thrust of your image", or much else, I suppose . . .
