2007 Summeral Guards

Summeral Guards are an elite silent drill team at The Citadel, the military college of South Carolina.

It was very foggy the morning I took this series, so I was uncertain how it would turn out on film. I had to do some editing for lighting.

I just can't believe this striking photo only scored 5.6! I protest!

I love it!!!

Thanks for all of the great comments.

As for what happened to his face...

As I said in the description, this is a silent drill team. The way they keep "count" is by the lead guy to nod forward when they are ready to make the next change in formations.

I knew I took a risk by submitting this without his face showing, but I loved the shot so much that I wanted to enter it anyway!

An underrated photo - I gave it an 8. I also wondered what happened to the face of the soldier in front - kept me looking maybe a large plume flopped down or it's Linda Blair marching? :-) Thanks for sharing.

Interesting shot, love the crisp whites and pure blacks for nice contrast. Only thing I can't make out is the soldier in front, whats on his face... maybe I should know this but I don't and can't tell.

Oh, I LOVE this one! The amazing precision of those marchers and their rifles gives such a noble feel to the photo. Excellent choice for a black and white photo -- it adds even more drama!

I like everything but the lead person. What happened to his face?
