Challenge: Reflections Without Mirrors III (Basic Editing III)
Collection: Challenge Entries (most)
Camera: Canon PowerShot S2 IS
Location: My daughter's bedroom

Aperture: 8.0

Shutter: 6s

My oldest daughter in her room, brushing her hair. Okay, so she stood still for 3 seconds and then ducked out of the way for 3 seconds.

Thanks to various others who showed me through their photos how to not only get someone looking ghostly, but the importance of putting stuff behind them to show through.

I know the lighting isn't the most vibrant, but I really thought about the composition. I tried to include some elements that showed who she "was," like her gymnastics ribbon, her desk, and her favorite blue fiber optic lamp (yes, it's making yet another appearance in a challenge entry).

The most annoying thing was trying to get the window clean. First, it was raining, so drops kept appearing on the glass. Second, there are some smudges in the upper right that I couldn't reach to clean.

Anyway, I hope voters at least get the story of a girl who isn't quite gone. It's up to the viewer to decide whether she's a ghost or a memory of a still-living person.

Cool shot, and really strange as I just last night started experimenting with this very same thing in the local park!!! I'll upload to my port. still have to practice to get it right but I think it will be cool in the end...and this should have been at least mid 5's at least.

You have a nice diagonal of blue accross the frame from top left to bottom right. But, the brightness of the ribbon, and secondarily the BG of your daughters picture serve to distract from the challenge theme. There is little unity of objects in the frame, either in shape or placement. IMHO, in the context of the challenge, the reflection does not stand out as the subject. I see the girl's picture as the primary subject with secondary feeling prompted by the ghost image. I didn't vote in the challenge but seems like a 5 or maybe a 6 would have been my choice.

The shot looks cluttered and you are relying too much on the effect for points. Too many distractions and not enough thought put into the composition. It almost appears as it is a snapshot and looky what showed up as a cool incidental bonus within the shot. Not to say that it was not intentional but if it was, it is well concealed. I guess presentation is everything and this seems to fall short. Soory, but you asked. Better luck next time.

This is very interesting. Thanks for sharing the technique you used to create the ghost. I'm going to have to try it myself.

P.S. She's a cute girl!
