 Factoids: It's a shell casing from a Navy Phalanx CIWS (Close In Weapon System) - this is the Ships anti missile defense system. It's basically a radar & computer controlled Gattling gun that locks on to an incoming missile and fires 2000 20mm rounds per minute and is supposed to shred the missile to pieces.

Some call it R2D2 with an erection - you can see why:
