camera tilt is exaggerated by the angle of the shadows, creating disorientation. This downward tilt, plus highly arched eyebrows, makes the man on his knees seem desperate, pleading, which in turn makes the man on the little rascal seem like an authority figure granting favors. His raised hand becomes a blessing. You've talked before about how photos capture time. You have captured these two in their moment just before they blend back into the world around them, which we can see in all its glorious pseudogeometric chaos, momentarily pushed into the background, but threatening to swallow everything up again, as water against a broom. |
