Challenge: Wind II (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Nikon D2H
Lens: Nikon AF Nikkor 20mm f/2.8D
Location: Central Park, NYC
Date: Oct 25, 2006
Aperture: 22
ISO: 200
Shutter: 15sec
Date Uploaded: Oct 25, 2006

This was a 15-second exposure taken at dusk next to the Central Park Reservoir in Manhatten.

The reservoir had a lot of wind coming off of it, so I used the long exposure to capture that in the moving leaves. The motion blur in the branches I thought was obvious but many have commented that they don't see it, perhaps its too imperceptible in such a small format, or the image is too dark.

In any case, it didn't do great, but this is one my personal favorites ive ever shot, despite the lack of a true 'subject'.

The sky was really dark as the sun had set for some time, but the 15 seconds made it appear light. The lighting on the trees is coming from lamps in the park, though I PP'd it to give it the sort of surreal golden feeling, which is what the gnarled trees inspired me to do. The fiery light on the right is an incandescent lamp which, due to me setting the WB for the fluorescent lamps on the left, came out reddish.

I thank everyone so much for the comments, I'm very happy that some people seemed to really like it!

Processing: Lots of D&B'in, curves/levels, desat on the tree trunks, sat on the leaves, crop/border, USM, USM, save for web.

Such a lovely photo!
I don't care for the border, and it certainly doesn't say "wind" at all, but I love it, nevertheless.
I find the orange tones really important, they help balance and set off all those greens.

I love this - very mystical. Before reading what the challenge was about or reading your notes I noticed the motion blur of the leaves, which is awesome. My only nitpick would be the black border, which adds nothing. Should have definitely scored higher.

Very nice shot. I really like this. The darkness and the wide angle have a neat effect.

this really does have an enchanted feel to it. you'll have to share what post-processing magic tricks you did... 7

Interesting image seems to have captured some enchanted trees, probably due to the motion of the leaves - hope other viewers catch it. A main subject would help, how about a fairy/nymph/etc?

The processing here is incredibly good but unfortunately I see little in the way of wind no matter how hard I look. In fact it strikes me as a very calm and peaceful place to visit. Nonetheless, I'll give this higher than normal marks for talent and obvious visual excellence and trust there is a tie in to the challenge that I quite don't see other than a tittle tie in.

Interesting. Does not scream wind to me but is beautiful photograph. The low angle makes it seem very looming and the bright colors on the right (a fire??) make it feel very mysterious...

Totally title-dependent to depict wind/meet the challenge, (looks enchanting, not stormy to me) but a very intriguing and well done/processed shot.

The perspective of the image is great - low to the ground with a wide angle lense - but the image it is just too dark on my screen to see the reference to wind.

I really like the composition here. The colors of the yellows, greens, and oranges. Unfortunately, I don't get teh feeling of "Windy" from this image. I get, seclusion, wandering, or simply, "deep woods". The composition is enough to get a few bonus points over difficulty conveying the challenge criteria (from my perception of course).

Score: 8.
