Challenge: Wind II (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Panasonic DMC-FZ30
Location: Delray Beach, FL

This is my attempt to capture an image of wind itself, rather than something blowing or the destruction wrought by wind. I like the way my shadow melds into the shadows of the rippled sand.

Editing:
cropped; levels with gradient mask; curves; some dodging to soften the bottom edge of the shadow; sized and saved for web.

I knew I was taking a chance with this, but I really like the effect of the hair and sand ripples, so I went with it. I can see by the scores that it is a love it or hate it entry.

Thanks to everyone who left comments. I particularly like GrayGhost's suggestion of having something tangible (water or shell) in the composition. I am going to try the shot again when conditions are right. I think that may help the viewer realize the graininess is sand and not sensor noise.

Thanks to posthumous for placing this image on the Under-rated Wind shots

Okay, this is under rated for sure. It's an original idea
quite well executed.

Keep the new ideas coming, and when necessary, forget the scores.

Nice one.

I think the shot's quite clever, but i really don' like the long descriptive titles like this one which spell out too much.

Nice idea. Unfortunately the shadows are soft against the sand, and the image needs something more, maybe a wet spot, or something sharper like a sand dollar.

Nice graphic image - I like the way the sand lines echo and extend the windblown hair. A touch of levels and contrast really brings out the design in the sand a bit more, too. Good interpretation of the challenge!

The imagination required to find this delightful
image also requires a 10 from this viewer.

Wow. The first picture I look at and I'm blown away, so to speak. I'm going to give you a 9 now and then bump you up to a 10 later.

I really like this... think it needs some beefing up of the contrast though
