For a first challenge pic this is pretty cool...great job on taking the chance.. On my first time I freaked out and backed out and got dared to put a shoddy substitute instead..
Really like the subject and the mood you've created...

This certainly did not deserve the lower scores it was given. I agree though that a bit more DOF would have been good. Also the left edge is pretty distracting--that could have been cropped.

Good show for your first entry!

4.7 vs 5.2, not bad for your first sub and your mom's what? 2000th? :)

I think a little more dof to get the whole face in focus would have helped, and maybe cropping the first 20 or so pixels on the left (the verticaloid light and dark thingamabob) out would help with eye flow. Maybe more negative space on the right?

Overall mucho bokeh, but maybe not evident enough for voters to appreciate.

Nicely done first challenge.

Like the profile idea but feel like the outline would be better if it were in focus, too, as opposed to just the eye.

takes you to a place beyond surruelism. "its like as if it was just awhile ago..." state that this picture brings

nice one! would have liked it more if perhaps the whole subject were in focus (deeper dof)
