 I am new to the SLR camara and have a lot to learn. so the camara was on auto but I had the AF-A setting on and used the flash. It was a dull misty day and I was under a canopy of trees

This shot/idea has potential. I think if you just recompose the shot, so maybe you are to the left a little and lower down. Get a different perspective too. Overall it is a great first effort.
