I fell in love with this idea when I saw it on the list. I purchased the letters and background paper, laid out the letters and painted them to match the background grid. I drilled holes in the letters to hold the roses, assembled and shot. Of all the shots, this one captured the vision I was going for.

The DPC crowd may not like it, but I do.

Nice idea, setup, composition, focus, and DOF. The leaves at top are unnecessary, and the stem doesn't line up, but theses are nits. I'm not sure that I like the desaturation, I'd think that the white rose would be more striking in contrast to more vibrant colors, especially if it were the only white.

I love the symbolism here but I’m not sure a white rose is an Oxymoron. They have existed naturally for tens of centuries.
I can talk with a little authority about the white roses as they have been my family emblem since the 14th Century, and can be seen 3000 years earlier on frescos dating from the middle of the 16th century BC at Knossos, Crete.

That being said you have used Dof well to try and draw the eye to the petals, and the balance of colour against the dark leaves, works well.

Nice concept in your image setup overall, however, the focal point is too far forward putting most of the image OOF. A minor crop in the top left would remove the dark spot (edge of table?). Very nice exposure and WB control on the rose flower itself. Good luck in the challenge.

Not sure about the lighting on this, seems to be missing something
