Challenge: Oxymoron (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-350D Rebel XT
Lens: Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II
Location: My kitchen
Date: Oct 16, 2006
Aperture: 5.6
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/200

Date Uploaded: Oct 16, 2006

I poured used lighter fluid to get the flame. I could not get it to burn in the middle of the ice like I wanted, so I soaked a few pieces of match sticks and stuck them in the back of the ice where they did not show. I used an in camera flash to get enough light on the ice.

I made some adjustments to exposure, tint, brightness and contrast and saturation during processing. Then post processing in PhotoShop I cropped, adjusted levels and contrast, merged layers, sharpened and saved for web.

Nice idea, lighting, refraction, overall execution. Too bad the flame is blown out, a smoother gradation would be really good. I think that a stronger colored candle would also help.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this was done--great inspiration for a new photographer such as myself!
