From last night. Edited today.

Tried for a time-lapse sequence capturing this molt. Took a shot every 15 minutes for hours, and still managed to completely miss his emergence. The middle shot is what he looked like right before the molt. The next time I looked, he was completely out. Drat!

Papi is looking molty tonight. Maybe, this time, I'll catch it.

If you look closely, you can see that this is the molt where the last of the spines dissappear. He will continue to look the same and keep getting bigger until he pupates.

Very nice. They look vibrant just after they emerge. Great close-up

Great shots... I love the bright background color to offset him. We get butterflies in the spring for my classroom and last year I tried the time lapse thing since they always seem to molt, pupate, and emerge over the nights/weekends. I set a webcam up to shoot ever 15 seconds, and it was enough to not only get individual images, but you could loop them together into a movie too. Fascinating stuff! :)

You're pretty darn dedicated to get this close to catching the molt. Very cool sequence and you can clearly see he looks different in his new skin. Fascinating!
