 I'm not happy with the lighting on this. I should have known better than to try shooting in the full sun. But we were at a nursery buying trees for our yard, and this clump of purple flowers was loaded with bees, and I just happened to have my camera in hand....

I happen to ike the lighting on this one. It really highlights the fuzzy hairs on the bee. Very nice detail and color here.

Excellent sharpness & composition. I agree the lighting could be better. I often use the white side of a grey card for fill.

I will agree with you on the lighting.the shot is nice. the dof and clairity came out well. so you just happened to be carriyng 5 pound camera:)

yeah i agree about the raw thing and also maybe you could be selectively burn in some areas. its a very nice shot otherwise.

Lighting woes, yes, but still a great capture. If you shot RAW you might be able to hike up the exposure a bunch and then put that on a layer under the normally exposed image and then erase (at 10% opacity) areas around the bees head until you are able to even out the lighting.

I love the colors here and how you can see right thru the bee wings. I think it is very nicely composed as well with the bee taking up the full frame and the flower off center :)
