Golden Retriever 'retrieving' rubber duckies to meet challenge of "include a rubber ducky" in your photo.

Could not find an adequate lighting situation. Bedspread was too busy with blues so placed white towels for dog to lay on. Unfortunately this may cause a bit of washout in the image.

Used external flash with diffuser to improve lighting and turned off other incandescent lights due to yellowing.

Composition did not go over well with voters. Important thing is I like it. Picture needs a little work (warmer color), but to score better, I should have had her with a duck in her mouth or something per comments below. I agree with that assessment.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. :)

Nope. . .I don't see at ALL why this cute photo scored 4.5! I love it! And it's got nice enough lighting and excellent sharpness. And the subject matter is as cute as can be. You're right: DUMB VOTERS!!!! :)

It feels over sharpened. The duckies have ridges on their head. It also feels like it was saved at too low of a quality. THe yellow and eyes of the duckies are not very clear. Hard to focus on.

The capture of the dog is decent, though I tend not to be very fond of dogs. Your's at least seems to have a good heart in his eyes.

I also feel the duckies are too low in the picture to feel like a main interest. So it feels like the were just tossed in for the challenge. And true, the duckies do not need to be the main subject. But they must feel as if they add something to the shot. Here, I think I'd like the shot better without duckies. And I like duckies...I have probably about 30 and another 2 dozen on the way.

I think those are the factors that hurt this entry.

The lighting seems a little harsh. The bottom right has a hot spot which grabs my eye.

Correct, the dog is the subject so your eyes should be traveling to it. The challenge is to "Include" a rubber ducky in the photo, not make the rubber ducky the "subject" of the photo.

Also, it is a Golden Retriever which are game (bird) retrieval animals, so the two IMO are perfectly related and a great match. Slightly average to marginally above average shot IMO, but defintely challenge material. I had it projected as about a 5 going into the competition and still do in relation to the competition.
