For me this must be a nightmare. Months of planning, all the invitations out, everyone at the church for the wedding, and the groom gets cold feet and doesn't show.

Thanks to Pia for modeling for me.

Thank you for all your comments on this pic, I had a lot of fun doing it. Pia is only 15 years old! You wouldn't think it looking at this pic.

@ BobsterLobster: the white balance is set appropriately for the studio lighting set up I had. And as for "underexposed", I am not sure what you mean there, the levels graph showed I had the correct exposure.

@ dsa157: I think sadness is not something a bride would be expressing in a situation like this. I would expect a mixture of emptyness, anger and confusion. I think the sadness stage would come later.

@ Fayepek: That would have been a good title too, this was the best I could come up with :-) Too many highlights on her face? Funny, SharQ said it was underexposed.

@ Jon Lucas and dsidwell: your comments contradict each other :-)

@ Olyuzi: thank you for that comment, your first sentence sums it all up well.

Thanks again everyone for your comments.

Much as it pains me to say it an excellent shot as usual Kiwi. Superb lighting, great details and DOF is spot on. Is there anything you can't do?

The only reason I think this didn't get a ribbon (and a blue one at that) was because it takes on reality and isn't expressive of the dreamlike and surrealistic images that most people have interpreted this challenge to be. To me, this is the superior image of the challenge! Hands down. Original idea that is so well executed. Like so many people that have already commented, you could feel her pain. Her pose and the lighting suggest that she can't hide from the embarrassment as she tries to recoil into herself. Truly a shattered dream. So well done...bravo!

That's the worst reaction to a sexual anticlimax I've ever seen! ;D

Good tones and composition if a little too uncomfortable for the viewer - being too close to the subject. This means one scrutinises details that are irrelevant to the shot. I can understand the idea but it does look too staged.

Very good sad portrait. The skin looks really good and soft. Great diagonal composition. I would have included more space above her and on the right for better balance.

Beautiful, talking shot!

This would be a nightmare for the bride no doubt. The smeared makeup, the runny nose really add to the shot and make it that much more realistic, I hope it wasn't real! The anguish on her face and the clenched fists really finish this portrait for me.

Technically a very good portrait. I find the set-up a bit "too-much" to express this otherwise very good idea. Her facial expression and body language is almost enough, perhaps with few tears on the cheek. This heavy make-up is just over the edge. Also I find it a bit tightly cropped on the left - I'd have like to see the shoulder. But this is nitpicking - great picture! 9.

This is really a wonderful photograph. I surely hope it was staged and this heartbreaking nightmare didn't really happen. Beautiful lighting and color and excellent composition.

Bummer. She's a pretty good actor! Nice point of view. You could go in even closer, perhaps, for even more mood.

This is an excellent image. I feel like I am right there with this woman... With the mascara running, and the tears -- you can't help but get a heartache. Thankfully, this wasn't real, right?! Excellent image!

Damn him anyway. This is a good shot. Maybe should have been titled "The end of a dream". A few too many highlights on her face. Her ear shouldn't have tears on it :) Good job and good luck. 7

This is a wonderful photo, it would have even made for a great wedding photo without the tears. Nice portrait and good representation for challenge, in my opinion.

clever idea. nicely photographed, but the bride doesn't look sad enough in her expression. It looks as if you just wanted us to see the smeared mascara rather than the unhappiness she is experiencing.

Excellent studio portrait, but not too much of a dreamlike state. The lighting is spot-on and the colours are gorgeous. Great model as well. (7)

Beautiful model and dress. Shame about the white balance... the skin seems very orange. The photo is just a little underexposed for my taste. Great idea, it made me laugh out loud (not because I'm heartless! It's a great idea for nightmare). The background could enhance the foreground more if it were darker. On the whole, I like this though! 8
