CONCEPT: I originally thought of the old saying "You can't compare apples to oranges" and thought of shooting an apple and an orange on a scale or balance but couldn't find one anywhere. My next idea was this one...slice an apple and an orange in half, stick them together using toothpicks and since it's advanced editing I can clone out any small bit of toothpick I might have sticking out of one side or the other.

SETUP: My dad has been building an inexpensive home studio and he let me use his "studio" for this shot. He suggested the white to black sweep for the background and helped arange the slices. We really worked together to create this shot which I ruined by adding apple seeds to the slice on the right side of the photo. Unfortunately I didn't shoot any without those silly seeds so I hope it doesn't hurt my score drastically.

POSTPROCESSING: Converted from RAW. Brightened, increased contrast, cooled the temperature a little, increased the color saturation. Cloned out two minor distractions where a tiny tip of toothpick poked through both sides, cloned the seam between the apple and orange to remove small imperfections in the alignment.

This image may confuse the dnmc police. I get it: it is two objects and their dicings or slicings. Remains well withing the guidelines. Bump.

I really like this concept. If the apple in the background were a little sharper, this would be even stronger.

Neat idea and good job executing it. I'm not sure the peices in front really help the picture or not.

popular as the cliche may be, i think that oranges and apples are not unrelated

Sorry, I see you went to a lot of trouble getting this nice shot together but for me, it doesn't meet the challenge "Gather exactly two objects that are completely unrelated"

Very nice and well executed concept! Wish green apple would have been a bit sharper though

Excellent idea! I don't like the pieces lying in front of the "orangapple". They work distracting. Center on the "orangapple" and leave the pieces out.

Completely unrelated? I get you point, but both are fruits, food, round etc ... otherwise, nice photo and idea ...

wow, great idea...I like the lighting...my only negative is that the apple in the back is not in focus, perhaps a better dof would have taken this higher...8
