Actually, he was probably trying to make sure the kids climbing on the tank weren't about to fall and kill themselves.

This gentleman was "on display" with his tank (for the National Guard, perhaps) at the North Carolina Mtn. State Fair in Asheville.

I'm sure those that know will be able to recognize that this is not an "operational" or "on location" shot, but it was more interesting than my "technically almost perfect" shot or my slick and shiny car shot.

I will point out that this was made with my point and shoot, not my rebel. :P

I didn't get around to voting on this one, unfortunately. Whether or not I realised this wasn't from an actual war zone, wouldn't have swayed my feelings in any way. It still has excellent photojournalistic qualities. Really, he could be anywhere. Your decision to convert to sepia, along with the great title, adds much to the overall atmosphere and aids the viewer in feeling a wide range of emotions - nostalgia, pity, heartbreak, pride etc... I suspect your intention here was to evoke those feelings, and if so, it worked for me.

i think i might have liked it a bit more to the right just to catch a bit more of his face.

I like the rusty/dusty/metalic feel of this shot. Think everyone feels very "emotive" about military personnel. Nice capture and nice title. All around nice job :-)

A fine emotive shot (emotive are my favorites). Nice crop and very attractive color tones. I even think the plain off-white looking sky provides contrast and adds to the mood of this picture. Looks like you might have added a slight grain here (or maybe it is a result of the point and shoot) - either way it's a nice effect and might have been cool even grainier. One very small nit - a tiny piece of crud in the sky just over his forehead could use cloning out IMO. Well done.

Good study, composition is nice and I like your choice of Sepia. Just a shame about the sky imho :o)
